Therapies

You Don't Have to Figure It All Out Alone

Therapeutic support tailored to you, your experiences and the things that matter most.
The different therapies at Mental-Health4U
We offer a range of therapeutic approaches because people are individuals, and what helps one person may not be the right fit for another.

Our aim isn't to have lots of therapies for the sake of it. It's about having different options to cater to lots of different needs.

1:1 Therapy

Post Diagnostic ADHD and Autism Support
1:1 Therapy provides a safe, confidential and supportive space to explore whatever is bringing you to therapy.
Â
Whether you're experiencing anxiety, low mood, stress, relationship difficulties, trauma, or simply feeling stuck, therapy offers an opportunity to better understand your experiences and work towards meaningful change.

Because no two people are the same, therapy is tailored to your individual needs, strengths and goals, ensuring that the support you receive is as unique as you are.
We take an integrative approach to therapy, meaning we don't rely on a single therapeutic model.
Instead, we use ideas, concepts and techniques informed from a range of therapeutic approaches, including
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT), Mindfulness, and Systemic Family Practice and more.
Â
Rather than expecting you to fit one therapy model, we adapt therapy to fit you, creating a personalised approach that supports your individual goals and circumstances.
Â
People come to therapy for many different reasons. You don't need to be in crisis or have everything figured out before seeking support.
Whether you're facing a specific challenge or simply feel that something isn't quite right, therapy provides a space to understand your experiences and work towards positive change.
Â
1:1 Therapy may be helpful for:
-
Anxiety and excessive worry
-
Low mood and depression
-
Stress and burnout
-
Trauma and difficult life experiences
-
ADHD and Autism-related challenges
-
Emotional regulation
-
Low self-esteem and confidence
-
Relationship and family difficulties
-
Grief and loss
-
Life transitions and personal growth
Â
If your reason for seeking support isn't listed above, please get in touch. During an initial consultation, we can discuss your needs and whether my approach is the right fit for you.
Beginning therapy can feel like a big step, and it's natural to feel unsure about what to expect. Our aim is to create a warm, supportive and non-judgemental environment where you feel comfortable exploring whatever has brought you to therapy.
Â
Sessions are collaborative and tailored to your individual needs. Together, we'll explore your experiences, identify meaningful goals and develop practical strategies to help you move towards the changes that matter most to you.
Â
As therapy progresses, we'll regularly review how things are going and adapt our work together where needed. This ensures that therapy continues to reflect your goals and what's most helpful for you at each stage of your journey.
Â
Sessions are:
-
Approximately 50-60 minutes long
-
Confidential and non-judgemental
-
Tailored to your individual goals and needs
-
Collaborative, compassionate and evidence-informed

Available online (and in person if applicable)
Receiving a diagnosis of ADHD or Autism can be life-changing.
Â
For many people, it brings a sense of relief and validation, finally providing an explanation for experiences that may have felt confusing for years.
Â
At the same time, it can raise new questions, emotions and uncertainties as you begin to understand what your diagnosis means for you.

Post-diagnostic support provides a safe, supportive and non-judgemental space to explore these experiences.
Â
Together, we'll make sense of your diagnosis, celebrate your strengths, understand the challenges you face, and develop practical strategies that help you navigate everyday life with greater confidence.

Rather than asking, "What's wrong with me?", we'll begin asking, "How does my brain work, and what helps me thrive?"
We take a neurodivergence-affirming, strengths-based and collaborative approach to post-diagnostic support.
Â
We recognise ADHD and Autism as natural differences in the way people think, learn and experience the world—not something that needs to be fixed.

Receiving a diagnosis is often the beginning of a journey rather than the end of one.
Â
Together, we'll explore how your neurodivergence influences different areas of your life, helping you better understand yourself, recognise your strengths and identify the barriers that may be getting in your way.

Our role isn't to change who you are—it's to help you understand your neurodivergence, recognise your strengths, and discover what helps you thrive.

We'll work together to develop practical strategies that complement the way your brain works, rather than expecting you to constantly adapt to environments that weren't designed with neurodivergent people in mind.

Above all, we want you to leave with greater self-understanding, increased self-compassion and the confidence to advocate for your needs while building a life that works for you.

Our staff have lived experience of Neurodivergence, so bring a unique, first-hand perspective that children, young people and adults find helpful.
Post-diagnostic support is designed to help you move beyond your diagnosis and develop a deeper understanding of yourself.
Together, we can:
-
Explore what your diagnosis means for you personally.
-
Understand how your ADHD or Autism influences your thoughts, emotions, behaviours and relationships.
-
Recognise and build upon your individual strengths.
-
Develop strategies to support executive functioning, organisation and everyday life.
-
Better understand sensory differences and identify ways to reduce overwhelm.
-
Explore masking, burnout and their impact on your wellbeing.
-
Build self-esteem, self-acceptance and self-compassion.
-
Build confidence in social interactions, including developing social communication skills where appropriate and in line with your individual goals.
-
Develop emotional literacy by understanding your own emotions, recognising how others may be feeling, exploring helpful ways to respond in different situations, and learning strategies to regulate and manage your emotions.
-
Develop practical strategies for work, education, relationships and daily life.
-
Increase your confidence in communicating your needs and advocating for yourself.

Every neurodivergent person is unique, which is why support is always tailored to your individual goals, strengths and circumstances.
We'll begin by getting to know each other. This is very important for therapy to be successful.Â
We will then explore your experiences, understanding what led you to seek post-diagnostic support, and identify the goals that are most important to you.
Sessions provide a safe, supportive and non-judgemental space to ask questions, reflect on your experiences and better understand how your neurodivergence influences different aspects of your life.
Â
Together, we'll explore practical strategies that build on your strengths, support the areas you find more challenging, and help you create a life that works for you.
Â
Sessions are:
-
Approximately 50–60 minutes long, although shorter sessions are available if helpful.
-
Delivered in a safe, confidential and non-judgemental environment.
-
Neurodivergence-affirming and strengths-based.
-
Tailored to your unique experiences, individual needs and therapeutic goals.
-
Collaborative, compassionate and evidence-based.
-
Available online (and face-to-face where applicable).

 Supporting Parents of Anxious Children
Therapy as a Family
Watching your child struggle with anxiety can be difficult, and many parents are left wondering how best to help.
Â
This psychoeducational programme is based on the evidence-informed book Helping Your Child with Fears and Worries by Dr Cathy Creswell and Dr Lucy Willetts, combining proven strategies with my own professional knowledge and experience of working with children, young people and families.

The programme helps parents and carers develop a deeper understanding of childhood anxiety, including why anxiety develops, what maintains it, and how everyday interactions can either strengthen confidence or unintentionally reinforce anxious behaviours.

You'll learn practical, evidence-based techniques that can be used at home to support your child in gradually facing fears, developing resilience and building confidence.
Â
Throughout the programme, we will expand on the principles within the book, helping you understand how to apply them to your own child's unique circumstances and answer any questions you may have along the way.

This is not therapy for your child. Instead, it equips parents and carers with the knowledge, confidence and practical skills to become effective supporters of their child's emotional wellbeing. Parents are the experts on their own child. This programme combines that expertise with evidence-based strategies, giving you practical tools to support your child's confidence and emotional wellbeing every day.

Whether your child experiences worries, separation anxiety, school anxiety, specific fears or avoidance, this programme aims to help you feel more confident in supporting them while reducing the impact anxiety has on family life.
We understand that seeking support for your child's anxiety can feel emotional.
Many parents worry that they have somehow caused their child's anxiety or feel guilty that they haven't been able to "fix" it.
Our approach is warm, compassionate and free from judgement. We don't believe in blaming parents. Parents are doing the very best they can with the knowledge and resources they have at the time.
Instead of focusing on blame, we focus on understanding. Together, we'll explore how anxiety works, why certain patterns develop, and how small changes can make a big difference over time.
Â
We see parents as partners in the process. You know your child better than anyone else, and our role is to share evidence-based knowledge and practical strategies that build on the strengths you already have. We'll work collaboratively, adapting ideas to fit your family, your child and your everyday life.
Â
Our aim is for you to leave feeling informed, empowered and confident—not criticised or overwhelmed.
Throughout the programme, we'll work through a range of practical strategies based on Helping Your Child with Fears and Worries by Dr Cathy Creswell and Dr Lucy Willetts.
Â
You'll learn how to understand your child's anxiety and develop the confidence to support them using evidence-based techniques at home.

Topics include:
-
Goal setting – helping you and your child work towards realistic, achievable goals with a clear sense of purpose.
-
Understanding your child's anxiety – exploring how thoughts, feelings, physical sensations and behaviours interact to maintain anxiety.
-
Encouraging independence – recognising when anxiety may be limiting your child's confidence and learning ways to gently encourage independence.
-
Graded exposure – supporting your child to face fears gradually, using manageable steps and positive reinforcement to build confidence.
-
Emotional regulation strategies – learning practical techniques such as controlled breathing, progressive muscle relaxation, grounding, mindfulness, visualisation, coping statements and creating a personalised "Keep Calm Kit".
-
Problem-solving skills – helping your child identify problems, explore possible solutions, and build confidence in managing challenges independently.

By the end of the programme, you'll have a toolkit of practical strategies that you can confidently use to support your child in everyday situations.
The programme begins with an initial appointment, where we'll take time to get to know one another, explore your child's anxiety, discuss your concerns, and agree on clear goals for the programme.
This session also provides an opportunity to introduce the course and answer any questions you may have before we begin.
Â
Following this, you'll attend six structured sessions, each building on the last. Throughout the programme, you'll develop a deeper understanding of childhood anxiety while learning practical, evidence-informed strategies that you can begin using at home straight away.
Sessions are collaborative and supportive, with plenty of opportunity to ask questions, reflect on your experiences, and discuss how the techniques can be adapted to your child's individual needs.
Â
Between sessions, you'll be encouraged to put the strategies into practice at home. We'll review what's working well, explore any challenges you've encountered, and work together to adapt your approach where needed. The aim isn't perfection—it's helping you feel increasingly confident in supporting your child.
Â
After the sixth session, there is a four-week consolidation period. This gives you and your child time to practise the strategies in everyday life, build confidence, and experience how the techniques work outside of our sessions.
Â
We'll then meet for a review appointment to reflect on your progress, celebrate successes, discuss any ongoing challenges, and consider any further support that may be helpful.
Sessions are:Â
-
Approximately 50-60 minutes long
-
Confidential and non-judgemental
-
Tailored to your individual goals and needs
-
Collaborative, compassionate and evidence-informed
-
Available online (and in person if applicable)
Families naturally experience periods of change, stress and uncertainty.
Â
Sometimes communication becomes difficult, relationships feel strained, or families find themselves becoming stuck in patterns that are hard to change.
Â
Therapy as a Family provides a safe, supportive and non-judgemental space where family members can come together to better understand one another, strengthen relationships and work towards positive change.

Rather than focusing on one individual, we'll explore how everyone's experiences, relationships and interactions influence one another.
Â
Together, we'll develop a shared understanding of the difficulties you're facing and identify practical ways of moving forward as a family.

Everyone's voice is valued and each family member will be given time to explain their truth.

In Therapy as a Family it is important that we don't assign blame, but ask that each family member shares their own perspective, shows compassion and looks within themselves for how they can help the family system.Â
We take a systemic, collaborative and strengths-based approach to therapy as a family
Â
We believe that difficulties rarely exist in isolation and that every family member brings their own experiences, perspectives and strengths.

Our role isn't to decide who is right or wrong, or to place blame on any individual. We don't see one person as "the problem.

Rather than asking, "Who is the problem?" we'll explore, "What is happening within the relationships, and how can we move forward together?"
Â
We'll work together to understand the patterns, relationships and circumstances that may be contributing to the difficulties you're experiencing.
Â
By creating a safe space where everyone feels heard and respected, families can begin to communicate more openly, develop greater understanding of one another and explore new ways of responding to challenges together.

Every family is unique, so therapy is tailored to your family's individual needs, values and goals.
Family therapy may be helpful if your family is experiencing:

-
Communication difficulties.
-
Frequent conflict or arguments.
-
Relationship breakdowns or tension.
-
The impact of anxiety, ADHD, autism or other emotional difficulties on family life.
-
Changes following separation, divorce or blended families.
-
Parenting challenges.
-
Life transitions or significant changes.
-
Difficulties understanding one another's perspectives.
-
A desire to strengthen relationships and improve family wellbeing.

Together, we'll explore the challenges your family is facing, identify existing strengths, and develop practical strategies that support healthier relationships and more effective communication.
We'll begin by getting to know your family, understanding everyone's perspectives and identifying the goals you would like to work towards.
Â
Therapy as a family provides a safe, respectful and supportive space where every family member has the opportunity to feel heard.

Sessions focus on understanding relationships, improving communication and exploring new ways of responding to difficulties together.
Â
Rather than looking for someone to blame, we'll work collaboratively to understand patterns and identify changes that can help strengthen your family relationships.

Sessions are:
-
Approximately 60 minutes long.
-
Delivered in a safe, confidential and non-judgemental environment.
-
Collaborative, respectful and strengths-based.
-
Tailored to your family's individual needs and goals.
-
Focused on improving communication, understanding and relationships.
-
Available online (and face-to-face where applicable).

EMDR (Trauma Therapy)

Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) is an evidence-based psychotherapy that helps people process distressing or traumatic experiences that continue to affect them in the present.
Â
Sometimes these experiences become "stuck", meaning the brain is unable to process them fully.
Â
EMDR uses a structured approach to help the brain reprocess these memories, reducing the emotional distress associated with them.

We'll work at a pace that feels comfortable for you, and you'll remain in control throughout every stage of the process. Throughout our work together, we'll regularly review your progress and adapt the therapy to meet your individual needs.
We understand that beginning EMDR therapy can feel daunting, particularly if you've experienced trauma or distressing life events.
Â
That's why we take a trauma-informed, compassionate and collaborative approach, ensuring that you feel safe, supported and in control throughout the therapeutic process.

We'll never ask you to move faster than you feel comfortable with.
Â
Before beginning memory processing, we'll work together to develop emotional regulation skills, grounding techniques and coping strategies so that you feel prepared and confident. Throughout therapy, we'll regularly review your progress, adapt our approach to meet your individual needs and ensure that your wellbeing remains our priority.
When we experience a traumatic or highly distressing event, our brain will usually process the experience naturally over time.
However, sometimes memories can become "stuck", meaning they continue to trigger the same thoughts, emotions, physical sensations and beliefs long after the event has passed.
Â
EMDR helps the brain reprocess these memories so they become less emotionally overwhelming.
While you may still remember what happened, the memory often feels less distressing and has less influence over your daily life.
Â
Because EMDR focuses on processing distressing memories, it may be helpful for people experiencing:
-
Trauma and post-traumatic stress
-
Childhood trauma
-
Distressing or adverse life experiences
-
Anxiety linked to past experiences
-
Panic attacks
-
Phobias
-
Grief and loss
-
Low self-esteem rooted in past experiences
-
Distressing memories that continue to affect everyday life
Â
During your assessment, we'll explore your experiences together to determine whether EMDR is the most appropriate approach for your individual needs.
EMDR therapy follows a structured, evidence-based approach and always begins with getting to know you—not your trauma.
We'll spend time understanding your experiences, discussing your goals, and deciding together whether EMDR is the most appropriate approach for you.
Â
Before any memory processing begins, we'll focus on preparation. Together, we'll develop a range of coping strategies, emotional regulation techniques and grounding skills to help you feel safe, supported and confident throughout therapy. There is no pressure to move on until you feel ready.
Â
When the time is right, we'll work through the identified memories at a pace that feels comfortable for you. You remain in control throughout the process, and we'll regularly check in to ensure you feel supported.
EMDR is never about forcing you to relive traumatic experiences; it's about helping your brain process memories in a way that reduces their emotional impact.
Â
Throughout therapy, we'll review your progress together and adapt our work to meet your individual needs, ensuring you feel supported every step of the way.

We offer many different therapies at Mental-Health4U
Simply put... because one size does not fit all.

Different difficulties, experiences and goals can benefit from different approaches. Sometimes one therapy may be particularly well suited to what you're experiencing; sometimes combining different approaches can provide a more helpful way forward.
Our range of training allows us to think carefully about you as an individual, rather than trying to fit you into a particular therapy simply because that's the approach we happen to offer.

We also recognise that the way therapy is delivered matters. For some people, understanding thoughts and behaviours may be helpful. For others, relationships, emotions, past experiences, trauma, parenting or the way their neurodivergence affects their everyday life may be an important part of the picture.

Having a variety of therapies available allows therapy to be tailored to you rather than trying to fit you into one type of therapy.
